A bone density scan in progress was photographed to demonstrate
its simplicity, and to eliminate the fear
factor for those who might benefit from an early diagnosis.
In "Earlier Technology", the 'scannee' had never before
undergone the procedure. To her surprise, the results showed osteopenia,
a precursor state to osteoporosis. It was a wake-up call to begin
taking better care of herself, regulating and improving her nutrition,
taking more calcium-rich foods, and avoiding the tendencies of burning
the candle at both ends.
Many thanks to Mrs. L. Fleming, the participating technologists,
and Ms. Asha Ahmed of Nuclear Medicine at the Sunnybrook campus
of Sunnybrook & Women's College Hospital, Toronto.
